Signal problem causes rail chaos

Commuters face travel delays after a major signalling fault on a rail line

Thousands of commuters face travel delays after a major signalling fault on a rail line.
Irish Rail said all services on a number of main routes had been suspended.
They included the northern commuter line, between Dublin and Belfast, the Dublin to Sligo line and Dart services to and from Malahide.
Dublin Bus are accepting rail tickets in North Dublin areas affected.
Irish Rail said it was working to rectify the fault as quickly as possible and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
Barry Kenny, of Irish Rail, confirmed the northern commuter and Malahide Dart line had later reopened - but warned commuters would still face delays.
He said Maynooth commuter services are not affected by the fault, but trains between Docklands and Clonsilla were cancelled to instead take up the running of Longford to Dublin trains.
Elsewhere, bus transfers were being arranged for passengers travelling between Dublin and Sligo.
Mr Kenny said the fault happened overnight during routine maintenance work.
"The key at the moment is to get services back up and running before we get a detailed analysis of this fault," he added.
