Bands kick off fantastic line- up of events

Local band Sun Gun will perform as part of the Soundwaves Festival.

THE 2010 Soundwaves Festival opens to the sound of rock music when local bands Kitchen Sync, Children at Play, Thumbprint, Remove the Oxygen, Sun Gun, Chasing Tails and Antelope take to the stage in Shenanigans at 9pm compete against each other in the Battle of the Bands contest. Some of the country's young actors will perform on Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12th in the much-loved tale of the magical adventure of Alice in Wonderland in the Little Theatre at the community centre.
Written and directed by Chris Kelly, this production is in association with the Moore School of Performing Arts.
An enchanting afternoon for children of all ages will take place on Sunday, September 18th with a magic show at 2pm in Carroll's Pier House Hotel while at 5pm in the Little Theatre the movie Mamma Mia will be shown.
For those who are feeling energetic, a musical fun cycle will take place on Sunday, September 19th at 12pm starting at Mills car park to Ardgillan Park while a Lego exhibition and workshop takes place from 3pm to 6pm at the Community Centre Hall. Junior Lego fans are invited to bring their favourite original Lego creations to the event.
The Equinox Night Parade starts at 8.30pm on Thursday, September 23rd at the Community Centre car park and takes the route to the Bandstand at Red Island while at 9.30pm the sky around the harbour will be lit up with a fireworks extravaganza.
Skerries Mills will host a Mad Hatters Tea Party at 5pm on Friday, September 24th while at 8pm in the magnificent candlelit setting of Holmpatrick Church an Opera Gala, featuring classical music selected by Jamie Rock, will take place at 8pm.
The festival takes over the whole town on Saturday, September 25th with various events such as the Rock Trailer, Dance Dimensions, mini-golf, fun races and rugby matches taking place from 2pm to 5.30pm in various locations. That evening the Soundwaves Concert takes place at 8.30m in the Little Theatre with Frankly Sinatra performing for fans of Ol Blue Eyes. Events continue on Sunday, September 26th, the final day of the festival with The Banyan Puppet Theatre presenting Twinkle, Twinkle at 11am and The Emperors New Clothes at 2pm in the Little Theatre.
A ceili with Inis Rua takes place at 12.45pm in St Patrick's Church and various workshops happening from 11am to 4pm in Skerries Mills. The three-weekend festival ends on a high note with Red Shoes performing in Carroll's Pier House Hotel at 9pm where patrons can dance the festival away.
