Bublé smash sparks Mahoney comparison
A SWORDS singer has hit the headlines after fans noticed a striking similarity between one of his songs and a smash hit by Michael Bublé. Renowned solo artist, Mahoney, released his single 'Love Child' in 2008, as the title track to his debut album.
But in recent weeks he's been inundated with emails and texts from people pointing out its distinct resemblance to Bublé's 'Haven't Met You Yet', which reached number five in the Irish charts.
Taken from his charttopping album, 'Crazy Love', the Canadian star co-wrote the number with his fiancée Luisana Lopilato and the comparisons to Mahoney's track are uncanny to say the least. ' When it came out first, I heard it on the radio and thought 'that sounds exactly like 'Love Child',' Mahoney told the Fingal Independent. ' We got onto a few radio stations and they agreed. They all said it is similar. The piano at the start sounds the same alright.'
There won't be any impending courtroom battles however, and if anything the comparisons can only be a good thing as far as the artist, also known as Patrick Mahoney, is concerned. While not a big Bublé fan himself, he recognised his talent as a songwriter.
' The songs themselves, I do enjoy,' Mahoney added. 'They're easy listening and radiofriendly. Hopefully it will mean people get to hear 'Love Child' and hopefully they think it's a good tune.'
After touring extensively last year, Mahoney returns to the Cock Tavern in his native Swords this Thursday, February 25th, and has a host of promotional plans for the coming weeks.
'I've lots of things happening,' he continued. 'I've a new website under construction and a new video for 'Love Child', which I've gotten a really good response to.
'A radio mix of 'Love Child' has also been remixed by Ger McDonald, who has worked with Keane and Madonna, and I've a song called 'Cracking Up', which will be released as a single with a video and promotion behind it.
'I got some people on the Mahoney team really pushing hard over the next couple of months and some big things will be happening.'
