Seniors dance the whole night away
PERFECT END TO SUMMER FOR LOCAL GROUP
MEMBERS of Balbriggan Senior Citizens group and guests from Swords, Donabate and Dunshaughlin thoroughly enjoyed their summer dinner dance at the Bracken Court Hotel. Organised by the committee, the dinner dance brought 110 senior citizens together for an evening of entertainment and socialising as well as a meal.
' Everyone had a great time at the dinner dance and most of them were up dancing,' said Dagmar Smith, Secretary of Balbriggan Senior Citizens. The dinner dance is one of a number of functions and events the organisation holds for its members and this year the group has already travelled on day trips to Knock and Kilkenny and a weekend trip to Westport. The group was established over 50 years ago in Balbriggan and now has its own premises on High Street where people can drop in for a chat and a cuppa Monday to Fridays between 10am and 12pm and also take up classes such as art and crafts, knitting and crochet. The group relies solely on donations and fundraising events to fund its work within the community. ' Anyone who wants to get involved with the group are more than welcome,' said Dadmar.
' Having the facility of the hall is great as it gives the older people in the town somewhere to pop into for a chat, to meet other people or just to drop in, have a cup of tea and read the newspapers,' she said.
Balbriggan Senior Citizens committee, comprising of Cora Kelly, Patsy Rooney, Dagmar Smith, Ann Healy, Vera Brennan, Bridie Reid and Dominic Rooney, are also working on making the group's day trip to Knock an annual event.
