Local Elections

Kelly on the brink

Sunday June 07 2009

GREEN party councillor, Robbie Kelly, is on the brink of elimination, after the fourth count in the Howth/Malahide ward saw Sinn Fein's Colm O'Murchadha bow out.

Another count will pass before any other councillors are elected, though sitting Fine Gael councillor, Alan Farrell, is on course to retain his seat, moving onto 2,832 (+37), while his party colleague, Joan Maher, is still third on 2,454 (+71).

Labour's Cian O'Callaghan has moved into fourth with 2,354 (+71), ahead of Fianna Fail's Eoghan O'Brien who has now polled 2,338 (+27), while independent Jimmy Guerin is on 1,984 (+142).

Fianna Fail's Averil Power is now on 1,710 (+41), the Senior Solidarity Party candidate, John Wolfe, is on 1,422 (+77) and the Socialist Party's Brian Greene has moved to 1,063 (+19).

Green councillors David Healy and Robbie Kelly will almost certainly lose their seats and are now on 1,009 (+37) and 661 (+29) respecively. The Labour Party's Peter Coyle romped home, pulling in 3,781 votes.

With the quota set at 3,709 - following a total valid poll of 22,251 - Cllr Coyle yielded the second heighest first preference tally in the county, just six votes behind the Socialist's Joe Higgins in Castleknock.
