Kennedy tops poll in Mallow

Saturday June 06 2009

The first count in the Mallow town council election shows that Labour have an extremely strong following. Mayor of Mallow town, James Kennedy, topped the polls with a result of 726 votes. Cllr Kennedy’s surplus 251 votes will now be carried over to elect another candidate.

It is expected that the next town council election candidate will be elected within an hour. Ronan Sheehan, a newcomer to politics, was elected to the town council with 509 votes.

Cllr Jerry Mullally, who has been serving as a town and county councillor since 2004, was elected with 522 votes.

Fine Gael’s Noel O’Connor, who has been serving in the town council for the past 15 years, got 601 votes.

Three of the elected town councillors are also fighting for five Cork County Council seats.

Cork County Council tally results in the Mallow area show Mullally, Sheehan and O’Connor are all well placed to get elected.
