PORTMARNOCK Arch Club put on the glitz and glamour last week, with a special fashion show fundraiser in the Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links. Organised by committee members Alison Murray and Colm McFadden, the event was a huge success and was well supported by the local community. Members of the Arch Club took to the catwalk to strut their stuff and were joined by friends of the group, along with local volunteers and children.

' That mix of people gave it a special atmosphere and made it such a success,' Arch Club chairperson, Kitty O'Connor said. 'It was very much a community affair. 'Our special members felt very secure and were able to go out and do their thing. They did brilliantly, as did everybody else.' The event was once again compered by Gerry Jennings of Portmarnock Dramatic and Musical Society, who helped set the tone of the night.

Bridal

Former Miss Ireland, Sinead Noonan, was also on hand to lend a hand, closing the show wearing a stunning bridal gown.

Fundraising events such as the fashion show support the club's activities throughout the year and it's not yet known how much was raised on the night, due to the large amounts pledged.

' The money is very valuable to us, but the camaraderie, friendship and support of the community is even more valuable,' Ms O'Connor added.

'At the moment, we're self-supporting. The community are always fantastic and have always supported us.'

The group wished to thank the two organisers, Alison and Colm, as well as the stores from Portmarnock, Malahide and Swords that supplied the clothes for the event.

Thanks also went to the local businesses who supplied raffle and spot prizes, as well as Portmarnock Hotel, all those who supported the night and the young Arch Club volunteers, who were extremely supportive to the members.

The next event will be a race night, held in conjunction with PSLC Golf Society, in the leisure centre on Friday, November 13th, followed by the annual Christmas fair on Sunday, November 22nd.
