Charity to benefit from kids efforts
39 STORIES IN COLLECTION
A BOOK written by creative writing students in Skerries has been launched with the proceeds from the collection of short stories going to Balbriggan charity, Remember Us.
Stories to Remember Us is the title of the collection which has been compiled and edited by Megan Wynne from stories submitted by students of her creative writing classes. The book was launched at Skerries Mills and is now available at Skerries Bookshop and a number of other local outlets. The book contains some 39 short stories, all written by Megan's students and covering a huge range of topics. From Fairytale Land written by Hana Lamari to festive stories like The Special Christmas Tree by Barbara Coleman, the book has plenty of stories to keep the reader engaged. The book provides a fascinating insight into the work being developed under Megan's expert tuition in her Skerries writing classes and could highlight some writing stars of the future.
The initiative will also provide a very welcome boost to the funds of Remember Us who do great work providing supports for people with special needs and their families. Megan Wynne gave up teaching to concentrate on writing full-time and has published three novels and a number of short stories and poetry collections. She has been sharing her knowledge of creative writing with her Skerries students for some time now and the publication of an annual booklet of student's short stories in aid of local charity has become a feature of her work. Megan lives overlooking the beach with her husband, Oisín and is now working on her fourth novel.
She teaches creative writing to children, teenagers and adults in various venues around the county and last year she published two collections of short stories from her students with proceeds from both raising a lot of money for charity.
