Children bring circus fun to life
LIBRARY HOSTS WORKSHOP
Wednesday May 27 2009
GARRISTOWN was home to lions, tigers and trapeze artists earlier this month as local children used their creative skills in the library's most recent art workshop. Emma O'Toole, a regular art and crafts workshop facilitator for the library, used her artistic talents to help children create their own circus tents, animals and characters for the afternoon.
Garristown librarian, Catherine Mullan Byrne, said a great afternoon was had by all involved and thanked Emma for hosting another successful workshop.
' The children about designing planned their set and ideas around what their circus tent might look,' she said. ' They chose what animals they wanted to include in the circus – elephants, lions, seals, tigers.
'It was great to see the super dexterity of hands and eyes as they fashioned their circus tents and animals. A great afternoon was had by all.'
The library also hold a junior book club, which meets on the first Tuesday of the month. Past books the club have reviewed include Brian Jacques' ' High Rhulain' and 'The Winter Knights'.
'High Rhulain' is one in a series of fantasy children's books based on animal characters who live in the land of Redwall.
All the club's members received a special pack for joining the Brian Jacques Book Club, which included key rings, pencils, biros, bookmarks and posters.
Paul Stewart and Chris Riddel's ' The Winter Knights' is part of a series entitled ' The Edge Chronicles', a children's fantasy novel series and is the second book in the 'The Quint Saga' series, which received mixed views from the readers.
The library also run an adult book club who meet on the second Monday of the month at 7pm, while an English conversation class began earlier this month. For more information on any of the library's clubs, classes or upcoming workshops, call 8355020.
