THE COUNCIL is demanding that a privately owned pumping station in Malahide is brought up to standard before it takes the building in charge. There are a range of issues around the maintenance and condition of the pumping house at Broomfield Mews in Malahide and the management company in the estate wants the council to take over the facility. But Fingal County Council will not agree to do that until the pump house is brought up to an acceptable standard and it is pursuing the private owner to have that work done. Reporting on the issue in response to a query from Cllr Eoghan O'brien (FF), the council said: ' Major concerns outlined in the letter from the management company about the operation of this pump house and previous breakdowns are being investigated. 'It should also be noted that enforcement action could be considered by the council in respect of this private pumping station that is not been correctly maintained by the owner, under public health, water services or any other relevant legislation. 'Regarding the long-term maintenance issues the council must have regard to available resources and the need to secure the most beneficial, effective and efficient use of its resources. 'This pumping station should be taken in charge in good working order so as not to expose the council to excessive costs in future maintenance.' Fingal County Council has replied to the management company outlining what needs to be done to complete the taking in charge process and said that 'as soon as the pumping station is completed to the taking in charge standards as confirmed by the mechanical unit of the water services section, it will be considered for taking in charge'.
