Hair-raising experience for pupils
FLOOD VICTIMS TO BENEFIT
Wednesday December 23 2009
PUPILS at a Donabate primary school got their heads together recently to raise more than € 1,500 for the victims of the recent nationwide flooding.
Touched by the stories and footage of the deluge in Athlone, the classes of St Patrick's Boys National School decided to raise funds to assist those affected. The school held a 'Mad Hair Day' and array of crazy hairdos, wigs and colours ensured it was an day to remember, with the infamous ' Jedward' haircut particularly popular
With the help of parents, staff and pupils, the school raised a magnificent total of € 1,600, which will go directly to flood victims in the midlands.
Indeed, the sum raised will be enough to help out two of the stricken families, such was the generosity of those who supported the event. The school made contact with Senator Nicky McFadden, who has been working on the ground in Athlone, helping families who have lost their homes and possessions. Senator McFadden visited the school earlier this month and the pupils were delighted to give her a cheque to bring to two families in Athlone.
