AN up-and-coming Fingal playwright is set to unveil her latest theatrical creation at the Helix Theatre in DCU in just over a fortnight's time. Grainne Jordan from Portmarnock, a new and exciting voice in Irish musical comedy, will stage Cafe Crunch on Saturday, September 18th at 8.15pm. Gráinne has many successful productions under her belt, most notably her play Only an Hour from Dublin, which was staged in the Sean O'Casey theatre in March, to great acclaim.
Gráinne's involvement with theatre spans many years, from playing leading roles in productions with Portmarnock Musical and Dramatic Society, and Baldoyle's Estuary Players, to writing and directing her own work. The theatre company Cogar Mogar, has staged several of her Children's shows in The Helix Space, including a number of bilingual plays, which were performed during Seachtain na Gaeilge. A former primary teacher, Gráinne has a great love of the Irish language and aims, through drama, to make it more accessible and enjoyable for young children.
Her talent as a musician and satirist can be heard on RTE's Liveline with Joe Duffy, where she is a regular contributor to ' Funny Friday'.
Café Crunch is an uplifting musical comedy inspired by the rise and fall of the Celtic Tiger, which is guaranteed to shake off doom and gloom. The cast includes: Karl Dawson, Maria Blaney, Susan O'Connor, Karla Moloney and Damien Douglas, with Maria Tyrrell putting them through their musical paces.
