Malahide's Rose up for volunteer award
Malahide local Rose Michael has been shortlisted for an InVOLved award for her fantastic work raising funds for lifeboats.
As chairperson of the Malahide RNLI Fundraising Committee since 1999, Rose co-ordinates a series of very successful events throughout the year. These raise valuable funds for the work of the lifeboats in Ireland and which raise awareness of sea safety in local communities in the region.
Rose ensures that the branch makes the best use of local volunteers, encouraging long-serving volunteers around her to establish new events, and to co-ordinate existing events, as well as drawing in a wide range of new volunteers.
Her vision and innovation, and proven success in local fundraising activities, make her knowledge and experience invaluable to the RNLI and she is enthusiastic about sharing ideas with other fundraising teams around the country.
Rose's model for the planning and running of Flag Days is currently being rolled out across RNLI branches in Ireland. Her enthusiasm for youth involvement in the Branch is invaluable and her innovation has paid dividends in this regard.
She has been prominent in introducing the RNLI Education programme into the Howth and Malahide areas, recruiting educators to support the programme and to bring it into local primary and secondary schools.

the commitment and ability to motivate people that Rose demonstrates each and every year is therefore invaluable to the RNLI. Rupert Jeffares of Howth Lifeboat said: 'Without the vital work of volunteers like Rose, the RNLI simply could not continue saving lives at sea.'
