Pan Am theme for Donabate captains

Tuesday February 21 2012

PAN AM was the theme of the day for the Captain's Drive In at Donabate Golf Club which took place on Saturday, February 11th. Incoming Captain Michael Galvin and Lady Captain Suzanne Geraghty dressed as a pilot and air stewardess respectively as a nod tosuzanne's former career as a stewardess. Others at the event included President Charlie Donnelly, Vice Captain Chris Ryan and Lady Vice Captain Vivienne O'daly as well as the two Junior Captains Christopher Slattery and Erin Synnott. 'It was a great day, the weather held up thank God and we had a fantastic evening after it with drinks and dancing till all hours thanks to the band Smooth from Malahide,' said Chairman of the Junior Committee John Galvin. More than 100 people took part in the competition on the day and the families of all the incoming captains were also there to wish them well for the year ahead. ' The Captains came in and surprised members by turning up as Pan Am pilots and stewardesses as the Lady Captain had been an airline stewardess in her youth. All the families were there, granchildren and everything, and it was just a great day,' said Mr Galvin. As is tradition, the outgoing Captains swapped their blazers with the new incoming team in a ceremony two weeks ago in the golf club. The Chairman of the Junior Committee went on to reveal the club is going from strength to strength with a very strong junior programme with lots of up and coming talent from all over north county Dublin. ' There is great potential there,' said Mr Galvin. 'We have a young guy from Donabate, Gavin Moynihan, who plays off a two plus and his is playing internationally now. In fact, he is in Texas at the moment with an Irish team out there and will be heading off to China next month to play in the Nick Faldo Junior Classic.'
