Scouts lend a hand at nursing home

CLOSING THE GENERATION GAP

Wednesday September 01 2010

MEMBERS of the Rush scout troop volunteered their services in Rush Nursing Home last week. The young, eager scouts sanded and painted the residents garden furniture to protect it from the ravages of winter. ' They did a wonderful job,' said manager Heather Carter. The young scouts, under the guidance of scout leader Pat McDyer, arrived at the nursing home full of energy and enthusiasm.

' The scouts will continue to interact with the residents in Rush Nursing Home throughout the year by involving themselves in other planned events,' said Home Activity Therapist Mary Bardin.

' This interaction is so important for our residents as it keeps them in touch and involved with the local youth and community.

' It is also beneficial for the youth of the community to feel relaxed in the company of the elderly and to encourage communication among the generations.'

Rush 38th Dublin Scout troop are members of Scouting Ireland, and form part of the Fingal Scout County.

Meetings for all sections ( Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Adventurers) take place in the Rush Scout Den at Kenure Woods Rush.

Rush 38th Scouts are delighted to be associated with Rush Nursing Home and later in the year we hope to do some carol singing at the home said scout leader Pat Mc Dyer.

Next Year 10 scouts from Rush will travel to Sweden to attend the world jamboree of scouting.

To try and help with the costs of this trip the group are fundraising vigorously, having already helped at the Harvey Norman Marquee Weekend.

The staff and the residents of Rush nursing Home would like to thank the Rush scouts for their hard work and wish them the very best with their trip to Sweden.
