A STAGGERING 15,000 people have applied for the 500 Dublin Airport Authority vacancies created by the opening of T2 - the equivalent to 30 names per job.

Over 900 posts will be created at the new terminal when it opens in November - including posts in the retail and catering element - and the interview process for T2 staff is more than halfway through.

' Up to 15,000 applied for 500 jobs,' the DAA's Siobhan Moore said. ' That process is now closed and we are interviewing and recruiting staff at the moment.

' Staff will work in T2 passenger services, passenger services team leaders, facilities, security, forecourt management, cleaning, all that kind of thing.

' We're recruiting 500 people and in the retail outlets separately, concessionaires are recruiting collectively about 400 people, so you're talking about almost 1,000 jobs.

' We're more than halfway through the recruitment process and a good few positions have been filled. There is also a lot of training involved.'

T2 is also one of the few remaining large constructions sites in Ireland and hundreds of workers are still employed as the project nears its completion. In fact, since 2006, an average 1,700 a day have worked on the airport's redevelopment.

' At the highest point we would have had 2,000 to 2,500 construction workers,' Ms Moore added. ' I've been in and out of this building since last November 12 months. The difference every time you come through it is fantastic.'
