Award for best butcher in town

Wednesday November 26 2008

Once more Ireland's craftbutchers flew the flag for the country's largest network of specialised food retailers at the FBD Crest Retail Excellence Awards.

Keith Shortt of McArdle Meats, Charlestown Shopping Centre, has added another prestigious award to his bulging awards cabinet by being named in the top 50 retailers in the country! A measure of this achievement is that this year, 432 stores entered the awards from the full spectrum of Irish retailing and competition was fiercer than ever.

Keith's recently opened shop in Charlestown draws customers from far and wide.

Strength

But the strength of this business goes much further than his impressive shop and its friendly staff.

Keith is no stranger to the awards podium when it comes to the quality and diversity of his product. Since 2001 he has been a multiple award winner in the Craftbutcher Speciality Foods awards and other competitions and he is a former Young Butcher of the Year.

This is the third time one of his shops has been in the top fifty. His shop in the Marshes Shopping Centre, Dundalk, has just won a Chamber of Commerce award for Customer Excellence.

'Needless to say I am delighted with this accolade‚' said Keith. 'All of the team here make a massive effort on a continuing basis; it is a reward for their dedication and commitment!'

Craftbutchers association chief executive Pat Brady added his word of congratulations to Keith. 'This is truly a reward for the excellence which Keith Shortt regards as standard. He is an outstanding representative of the younger generation of craftbutchers who have married the artisan traditions of the past with the highest standards in modern retailing!'
