Balbriggan horticultural show in full bloom

THE annual Balbriggan Horticutural Show was a great success with exhibitiors coming from far and wide to show their efforts. Held in the community college, the Cronin Trophy for best exhibit in the show was run by Oliver Clarke from Rush. Runner-up was Alec Brannigan from Summerhill, Co Meath. Other winners were John Warren from Malahide, Dennis Crowley from Raheny, Pat Curtis from Balbriggan, Brian Kirk from Knockbridge.

Others who did well were Christopher White from the Naul, Patsy McGuinness, Domnica McKevitt from Balbriggan, Gretta O'Doherty from Dundalk, Marie Kerr, Shirley McMahon, Kevin Kerr from Lusk, Jack Curtis from Balbriggan and Hazel McAleer from Balbriggan.

Also Chirs McAleer, Phyllis owens, Betty Flynn and Ignatius O'Brien did well. The society has now organised its winter programme.

There will be talks on vegetable growing on Thursdays, October 15th and 29th and November 12th and 26th at the scouts den at 8.30pm.

There will be a Christmas flower arranging presentation by Christopher White on Thursday, December 17th.

There will also be a garden table quiz on Thursday, January 21st 2010. The group's AGM takes place on Thursday, February 4th. There will be a presentation on fruit growing by Dominica McKevitt on Thursday, February 18th and a talk on birds in your garden by Jack Curtis on Thursday, March 18th.
