Caught with counterfeit bank notes
A MALAHIDE man, who allegedly tried to spend counterfeit money and was later charged after being caught with some € 250 in fake notes, has been remanded for a month.
Sean Condell, Seabury Park, appeared before Judge Patrick Brady at Swords District Court last week.
Condell, who is 20, was charged with two counts of passing counterfeit currency and with the custody or control of counterfeit currency.
It's alleged the accused attempted to use a fake € 50 note at Centre Point newsagents in Portmarnock on September 11th last year and at Donnelly's Pharmacy in the same town, on the same date.
The third charge relates to a garda search at 26 Seabury Park, during which five counterfeit € 50 notes were allegedly discovered.
Sgt Pat Thornton handed over evidence of the defendant's arrest, charge and caution and said the Director of Public Prosecutions had not yet given directions.
Judge Brady asked if Condell was 'at risk' of receiving a sentence or community service if convicted and Sgt Thornton replied that he was. The case was adjourned until Wednesday, March 3rd, while directions are awaited.
