Direct route for all arrivals into Dublin

THE same comfort and ease of access offered to departing passengers is extended to those arriving into Dublin Airport's new T2.
The design of the building allows, in effect, a direct route from gate, through customs, baggage reclaim and out onto the arrivals hall.
' When you come off your flight, you'll have one walk, straight through,' Siobhan Moore explained. ' You check in on the lower level and you arrive in on an upper level, which is very different to what you have in T1. But it's a completely different facility built for the modern day.' The most arduous task of coming home is nearly always baggage collection, but the new terminal will contain six carousels, larger and faster in output, which in turn should help make the process smoother.
' One of the things that people don't like in the other baggage hall is that the ceiling is so low,' Ms Moore said. ' It was the way the building was designed at the time unfortunately.
' One thing you might notice about the baggage belts is that they're quite big. They're designed so there can be doublestacked bags on them, whereas the ones in T1 are flat and you can't put any on top of each other.
' They have a double exit for spewing out baggage and they can handle up to four flights per baggage carousel each.'
After passing through customs, passengers will make their way into the arrivals area and straight out into a vertical circulation area to exit the building.
' We'll have WH Smith and an eating place on the other side, as well as a Spar, for picking up milk or bread on the way home,' Ms Moore added. ' The idea is that people are coming out to meet and greet and will wait on either side, keeping an eye on the screens, come out to meet whoever they're meeting and then go straight out to the vertical circulation area.'
