Drink driving student 'deeply embarrassed'
A STUDENT who was just over the limit when stopped for drink driving by the gardaí was ' deeply embarrassed' by what had happened, Balbriggan District Court has heard.
Faizan Choudhry, Moylaragh Crescent, Balbriggan had been attending a friend's birthday party in the Wright Venue on September 8 last year when he was stopped by gardaí on his way home at around 2.55 a.m. in Balbriggan. The solicitor for the defence said his client had engaged the services of a taxi but had been dropped at a car park close to his home and had driven his own vehicle home instead of getting the taxi driver to drop him straight there.
A subsequent urine sample gave a reading of 113mg/100ml. Choudhry has been living in Ireland for the past ten years and was 19 when the incident happened. He is currently studying a business course in Dublin and works part time. Judge Dermot Dempsey imposed a fine of €200 and disqualified Choudhry from driving for one year.
