MALAHIDE gardaí have warned that they are stamping down on illegal drinking on Malahide and Portmarnock beaches.
Local gardaí along with the divisional taskforce have been out in force on both beaches in an effort to stamp out public drinking on the beaches. Gardaí from the Malahide station have issued a reminder to users of the beaches that drinking is an offence and will lead to alcohol seizures and possible arrest.
In the recent sunny weekends, eight to ten garda officers combed the beaches, particularly in Portmarnock, seizing alcohol as they went and making arrests. The arrests were in response to several counts of anti-social behaviour and public order offences that came as a direct result of booze-fuelled parties on the beach.
Several arrests have already been made in Portmarnock and local gardaí are determined to make local beaches safe for all the family to enjoy and remove the scourge of drink-fuelled parties from the coastal beauty spots.
In recent weekends, the cut-backs affecting Fingal County Council services have been evident on the beaches, according to local sources who say there is a shortage of bins on the beach and less frequent litter collections.
