Fingal finalists feature in local authority awards

FINGAL IS well represented on the shortlsit for awards in this years Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) Awards in association with IPB Insurance. First held in 2006, the LAMA Awards were created to recognise local projects of excellence in the areas of infrastructure, community development, recreation and national impact initiatives. The process commences with nominations being made by city and county Ccouncillors across the country followed by a formal detailed applications process and then a process of short listing worthy projects. Finalists in the running for the coveted National Impact Award include the Limerick Tunnel Project; Tall Ships Races, Waterford; New Southern Route in Limerick; and Terminal 2, Dublin Airport. Finalists from Fingal are: National Impact Award: Town Bus Service Balbriggan (Balbriggan Town Council); Best Public Building: AIB Balbriggan (Balbriggan Town Council); Best Environmentally-friendly Initiative: Balbriggan Fish & Farmers Market (Balbriggan Town Council); Best Educational Building: Donabate Community College (Fingal County Council); Most Innovative Authority: Fingal County Council; National Impact Award: Dublin Airport Terminal 2; Best Commercial Building: Dublin Airport Terminal 2 Tracey Carney, Event Director, said: ' The volume and quality of the submissions in 2012 has exceeded our expectations. 'It is wonderful to work with such worthy projects, giving national recognition to local initiatives which make a valuable contribution to the community through construction, recreation and community initiatives.' This year's LAMA Award winners will be announced at the gala Awards ceremony, hosted by Miriam O'callaghan at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Northwood on February 11th.
