JUNIOR infants at Scoil Chormaic Community National School in Balbriggan are set to make history on Wednesday, September 1st, when they become the first pupils to be educated at one of only three schools of its kind. The new innovative primary school, located on the same site as Ardgillan Community College, was set up under the patronage of County Dublin VEC for children from all faiths and none from Balbriggan and environs.

' The children and staff are excited about the school opening and we are looking forward to working with them all,' Principal of Scoil Chormaic Community National School, Deirdre Corcoran told the Fingal Independent. And to ease the young school-goers into their new environment, an icecream party was held at the school on Saturday, where the new junior infants became familiar with each other and their new surroundings.

' We had a small party for the junior infants and explained to them what they may expect next Wednesday when they come to school for the first time,' she said.

' It's a way to help them feel at ease and make it a bit easier for them when they start their first proper day as they will see some familiar faces amongst all the pupils.'

Two classes of junior infants, two qualified primary teachers recognised by the Department of Education and a principal make up the school presently but this will grow as demand increases.

The school is a welcome addition to the increasingly wide variety of educational choices on offer to Balbriggan families and those from surrounding areas.

It is expected that in September 2012, once projected figures for future pupils are available and assessed, the school will transfer to a new building on a permanent site at Stephenstown in Balbriggan.

Principal Corcoran has promised parents who are sending their children to the new school that they can expect an environment where their children are treated equally and where ' everyone is valued and treated with respect.'

The school will follow the national school curriculum and will be subject to evaluation by the Department of Education inspectors.
