FUNDING is in place to enable the construction of a dedicated access route for the new Thornton Hall prison complex, it has been revealed.
The work is included in next year's capital expenditure programme announced by the Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern following last week's Budget.
It is also anticipated that work may start late next year on the construction of the security and perimeter wall of the complex. Residents remain vehemently opposed to the planned prison complex at the site outside Swords, which has a tentative 2013 or 2014 opening date.
