Graffiti to be tackled on estate walls
THE council has reported on its cleaning regime at Kinsealy/Melrose and what it is prepared to do to tackle graffiti in the area. Answering a question on the issue from Cllr Peter Coyle (Lab), the council explained: 'With the exception of open space areas litter is not picked within private estates. The open spaces within Melrose are picked on a weekly basis but because of staff leave and sick leave the open spaces had not been picked for a period of three weeks.
'The picking schedule has now been resumed and an inspection on Monday last showed the open space to be in a satisfactory condition. The area is also road swept on a six to eight week schedule.'
On the graffiti problem in the area, the council said: 'There were two areas with graffiti on a recent inspection, on the walls of the shopping centre and on the motorway walls facing in to the estate.
' The litter warden spoke to the shop owner recently who undertook to have the graffiti removed. The graffiti on the motorway walls will be attended to shortly.'
