Increase in beach patrols planned

Wednesday May 18 2011

BOTH the council and gardaí will be increasing their patrols of beaches this summer to make sure sun-worshippers are obeying the litter laws.

Asked what measures are being put in place for the summer season by Cllr Kieran Dennison (FG), the council said that its inspectorate division and litter wardens were agreeing a rota for beach patrols.

The local authority said it would also be asking for help from gardaí who have the power to enforce the litter acts.

Placing the onus back on the individual, the council said: 'It is important to note that individual responsibility still rests with members of the public using Fingal's beaches to use the bins provided or to bring their waste with them and to raise awareness of this the inspectorate division will be placing averts in the local newspapers to remind them of their responsibilities.'
