Locals invited to have say on town plan

PUBLIC MEETING TO TAKE PLACE

Wednesday July 28 2010

A MEETING on the Balbriggan town centre 'Public Realm Plan' is taking place today ( Tuesday) and local people are invited along to get involved in the process of creating a shared vision for the town for the years ahead.

This initiative is a partnership with Balbriggan Town Council, Fingal County Council, Balbriggan and District Chamber of Commerce and The Heritage Council.

The partnership is currently in the process of developing a Public Realm Plan for Balbriggan Town Centre. The Heritage Council introduced the concept of Public Realm Plans in 2006 and is sponsoring the development of such plans in historic towns throughout Ireland.

One of its main aims will be to ensure that the town centre of Balbriggan retains its vibrancy and supports local business through a series of coordinated initiatives.

The presentation is taking place in Hamilton Room in Balbriggan Town Hall, running from 6.15pm to 7.15pm.

As part of the Plan, a Town Centre Health Check study is currently being carried out in Balbriggan, which will measure the various indicators of economic vitality and vibrancy in the town centre.

Footfall counts have already been carried out as part of this study and a retailer survey is due to be carried out over the coming weeks by Balbriggan Chamber of Commerce and a representative of the Heritage Council.

If you have any queries regarding any details of the above, please contact Rob Merriman at the Balbriggan Town Council office on 018704411 or by e-mail at merriman.rob@gmail.com.

The Public Realm Plan aims to assess the quality of Balbriggan's public spaces and to examine the relationship between the Town Centre and the wider town and environs.

It aims to maximise the value of the town's natural and cultural heritage assets in making Balbriggan an attractive location to live and work in and to visit.

It is also seeking to propose a series of coordinated initiatives which will enable the Town Centre to retain and enhance its vibrancy with benefits for local residents, businesses and visitors.
