A FINGAL nurse who gave a lifetime of service to patients in the Mater Private Hospital has retired. Maureen McGarvey of Jordanstown, Oldtown spent 40 years working as a Night Sister and more recently a nurse in both the old and new Mater Private hospitals.
And in recognition of her services a retirement party was held in her honour recently at the Marriott Hotel in Ashbourne where family, friends and work colleagues turned out to wish her the best in her retirement.
' It is a bit odd not getting up to go to work now,' said Maureen, ' but I am sure I will get used to it!'
' I know I will miss my colleagues and the friends that I made through my years at work but I am going to enjoy my retirement.'
Maureen plans to travel more with her husband Patrick and spend more time with her ten grandchildren - Maria, Patrick, Aidan, Aoife, Ronan, Ethan, Ella, Joseph, Claire and John-Paul and her daughter Jacinta and sonin-law Richard Gallagher.
Fr John Carey, CC, Oldtown, blessed Maureen and wished her a happy and healthy retirement. A large number of family members travelled long distances to join Maureen at her retirement party including her aunt Vera Broderick who travelled from London; her sister Philomena Harrington from Liverpool and relations Vera and Paddy Mollaghan ( Galway); Tommy and Emer Dolan ( Kildare); Gerard Dolan ( Galway).
Also in attendance were her aunt Ita Mongey from Swords and her son Vivian, Maureen and John Mellon and Dympna Farrell and family.
