Metro still key priority

THE construction of Metro North remains a key priority after the Government renewed its commitment to proceed with the project in the wake of last week's Budget.
Transport Minister Noel Dempsey said that along with the DART underground programme, priority was being given Metro North. The news was welcomed by local TD Michael Kennedy who said he was pleased that the project was going ahead as planned.
'It is a necessary infrastructure plan that will be of huge benefit to thousands of Dublin commuters in the long term.'
'Given the current economic climate, we must make a series of difficult decisions to make savings but it is vital that we continue to implement valuable projects including that of Metro North, which will benefit many people into the future. Metro North will provide the people of North County Dublin and the surrounding areas with a first class public transport system, not to mention the 7,000 immediate jobs it will create at construction stage alone.'
