THE council has outlined its plans to turn what once was Martin's Shop in Rush into a community facility but while work has already started on the project but the local authority cannot yet name a completion date.

Following the purchase of the property previously known as Martin's Shop in Rush, a survey of the premises was carried out in order to ascertain the extent of the works necessary to enable the building to serve as a community facility.

The council has stated: 'The subsequent survey identified a list of tasks that need to be undertaken, including building preservation works, electrical, heating and alarm installations, roof and chimney repairs, fire safety work together with general renovation works.'

The local authority reported: 'Some of these works have already been carried out and a tender package is currently being prepared for remaining works, including the rewiring and installation of necessary lighting and alarm systems.

'It is not possible to state at this stage when this work will be completed, as it is dependent on the availability of funds.'

' While initial discussions have taken place to date with some local groups who have expressed an interest in using the facility, it will not be possible to engage more fully until the building is closer to the point where it is ready for public use.'

The council's plans for the building were revealed in response to a question tabled by Cllr Clare Daly (SP) to a meeting of the Balbriggan/Swords Area Committee.
