MUSIC fans are in for a real treat with a new live performance club set to open its doors in Fingal this weekend.

Fingal Folk Club is the latest addition to the local music scene, which kicksoff in St Patrick's Hall in Ballyboughal this Friday (March 12th) at 8pm. The club has been established to promote the talents of songwriters, musicians, singers and story-tellers of all ages, genders and nationalities in Fingal and some big names have already been lined up. One of the county's finest ballad and folk duos, 'The Morning Dew', will host the sessions and have extended an open invitation to musicians and singers to join them.

'I've been a musician myself for over 30 years and I'm part of a wide circle,' organiser, Ronnie Delaney explained. 'We've always played in pubs. ' The Seamus Ennis Centre is great, but it doesn't do much for local musicians, more the likes of the Christy Moores of this world. The idea for the folk club has been banded about for a couple of years.

'People have been asking where young people can go to see the music performed, as they can't go to pubs. That's one thing we're aiming at, young kids going to hear the music on a Friday night with their parents.

'A lot of kids learning music in school don't see the end product. This way they'll get to see the instruments they're learning in performance.'

A feast of Irish folk and ballad songs is promised, complemented by a crossover of all musical styles, while the club will also host a weekly feature spot.

' This will include a group, singer, songwriter or storyteller from the Fingal area, giving a performance of their favourite pieces of work,' Ronnie continued. 'It'll be a showcase for anybody that writes things themselves and a platform to perform.' The club will hold performances every Friday night, from September to May, and already and the likes of V Delaney, Tommy Greally and Martin Byrne have been signed up. Anyone interested in taking to the stage should contact Ronnie on 0851743748 or Ted O'Reilly on 086-6992440 to book in advance. Performances will commence at 8pm and will finish at approximately 10pm. Log onto www. fingal folkclub. com for further information.
