THE preparation of a new County Development Plan for Fingal will be a long and arduous task for the council who are now mired in the consideration of more than 500 motions to amend the draft plan. These are motions from councillors themselves and it is a record number of proposed amendments coming from the council floor.
In fact, councillors have submitted double the amount of motions this time around when compared to the preparation of the last development plan, five years ago
Head of planning at Fingal County Council, Gilbert Power, said the number of motions that had to be considered by the council and voted on was 'unprecedented'.
Intensive
He reminded councillors at the first of five intensive meetings to consider this round of amendments to the draft plan that they were developing a brand new development plan, not conducting a review of the current one.
He said that after the current round of amendments were put into the plan, it would go on public display in April and then come back to the council for further amendment in the autumn.
Mr Power said: 'It's a long process that doesn't end with this series of meetings.'
He told councillors that all told, 163 motions had been submitted on the written statement of the plan while a whopping 368 motions had to be considered based on development plan maps.
