Road chaos

A MOTORIST had a miraculous escape after crashing into a ditch on the wrong side of the road, as black ice caused havoc on Fingal's roads yesterday (Monday).
The accident occurred when a car skidded on Baskin Lane at around 9.15am and collided with another v eh i c l e . The second car spun and careered across the opposite side of the road and ended up in a ditch. The driver was brought to hospital as a precaution, although neither motorist sustained serious injuries.
Black ice
Hours earlier, a truck driver escaped injury after the articulated lorry he was driving jackknifed on black ice near Swords.
The incident occurred at around 4am on the Naul Road in St Margaret's. Again, no one was injured during the accident.
There has been flooding problems experienced across the county over the weekend with water services crew from Fingal County Council on call around the clock.
The council said the flooding was particularly bad in west Fingal in the Rolestown, St Margaret's and Rivermeade area. The local authority said it remains in constant touch with the met service, neighbouring councils and the ESB on the weather situation. The road at the Estuary in Malahide was also badly flooded.
