Road layout changes to facilitate new store

FINGAL County Council is continuing to make changes to the local road layout to facilitate the opening of the giant IKEA store on the edge of the Fingal border.

The latest measure to come before the council is the proposed extinguishing of a right of way over three parts of the St Margaret's Road. The project comes at the request of Ballymun Regeneration Ltd who are taking responsibility for the realignment of the road from Silloge Lane to the Ballymun Road.

The realignment will provide access to the IKEA store which is due to open this year.

The proposal to close three rights of way across the St Margaret's Road came before councillors on the Balbriggan/Swords Area Committee in March and has now been approved by the full council following a period of public consultation.

Director of services at the council's transportation department, Michael Lorigan said that the area of St Margaret's Road being closed off would now largely be in the hands of the Ballymun Regeneration Project. He said there were no major objections expressed in the public consultation process apart from some concerns expressed by the ESB about access to an existing substation.

Mr Lorigan said that those concerns had been taken on board in the proposal and he recommended the councillors approve the extinguishment of the rights-ofway. The council agreed unanimously to approve the plans.
