THE pupils, staff and parents of Gaelscoil Ros Eo in Rush put their shoulders to the fundraising wheel recently to raise money for Haiti and for an orphanage in Russia. A sale of work was chosen as the method of fundraising in the event that was organised by the school's hard working parents' association. There was all manner of goods for sale at the event which was held in the school's grounds and the weather smiled on the occasion, ensuring a big turnout for the fundraiser.

Everything from toys to books, to delph and general bric-a-brac was there to be browsed through on several stalls run by the parents. When all the money was counted, a very healthy sum of € 1,250 was raised with the money being split between two worthy charities.

The timing of the event ensured that Haiti was uppermost in everyone's mind so some of the cash raised will go towards the relief effort in that earthquake-stricken country.

The second charity to benefit from the event is the Borovichi orphanage in Russia. The orphanage has a very special place in the hearts of two parents from the school who adopted children from the institution.

Knowing the story, the parents' association were eager to lend a much needed helping hand to the orphanage and bolster its funds so it can continue to care for its young charges.

School principal, Sinead Ní Ghuibhir congratulated everyone involved with the event, particularly the parents' association who worked very hard to put the whole fundraising effort together.

Thanks is also due to everyone who turned up on the day and dug deep in their pockets to support the event.
