PASSENGERS flying to America from T2 will have their luggage photographed and be greeted by US officials in a designated facility, which along with Shannon, is the only one of its kind outside of the ' States.
After checking-in, transatlantic travellers must make their way to the basement of the building and pass through US customs and borders protection ( CBP) before boarding their plane.
' One of the big selling points of T2 is the US customs and border protection facility, which will be here it its entirety,' Siobhan Moore said. ' If you are checking in for transatlantic flights, your bag will be photographed at check-in.
' When you arrive into the CBP area, you will be met by US officials who will check your documentation to make sure it's all in order.
' They will pull up your bag here ( on screen) and have a look at it. If they're not happy with you, your bag or your documentation, you will be taken inside to their area for questioning.' Ms Moore explained the size of the dedicated facility dictated the need for the sizeable space, which then had to be accommodated in the basement area.
' Ireland is unique insofar as we're the only country outside of the American continent to have this facility,' she added. ' We have it at Dublin and Shannon.
' There is also agricultural control. If you are found to have food stuffs, you will be fined.'
