THE walls of Swords Castle could be rocking in the near future if an ambitious new project comes to fruition.

Castle Nites is the brainchild of Swords native, Jim Fitzpatrick, a promotions company aiming to push different genres of music at various venue across Ireland.

Gigs will be staged on the grounds of or outside historical venues where possible and the first indoor venue, at the Slaughtered Lamb in Swords, opens next week.

'It's the first venue of a series of five and we're looking at running them in suburban areas of large cities, starting with Swords,' Jim told the Fingal Independent.

'I've approached the council officially about using Swords Castle as a music venue and they've to come back to me in June. 'We wont know until then, but we've got a set of bands who will be playing the Slaughtered Lamb, starting on Fridays and Saturdays in March and April and we're hoping to extend that from Wednesday to Sunday.' The Lamb shows get under way next Friday, February 26th with The Deans taking to the stage and the likes of Machine Gun Baby, Colm Lynch, Simon Fagan, Hogan, The Spikes and Future Chaser are all on the way.

Tickets will be sold through usual ticket outlets, with four other venues planned to open by the summer.

'Artists like Aslan and The Pat McManus band have played the Lamb to packed out crowds and were impressed with acoustics, so it's a good venue in this respect,' Jim continued. 'The venue comes with four big screens, which are connected to cameras and when bands and artists play, all will show the live performance.

'All bands and artists will be entitled to sell whatever merchandise they choose associated with themselves.

'We're hoping to extend the business plan to include four other venues around the country, which will allow us to link into radio stations and tours.

'At the moment, there's nowhere to go in Swords for live music, so it'll be nice to have something.'
