Swords ' Hooks' Peter Pan movie
BOB HOSKINS TO STAR IN PRODUCTION
SWORDS is set to be the command centre for a major new film project, which is set to begin shooting this month. An 11-week shoot for ' Neverland', a two-part prequel to the famous Peter Pan tale, is about to get under way, with Irish company Parallel Films basing their production office in Lissenhall.
Acting giants Bob Hoskins, Anna Friel and Rhys Ifans all star in the film, which will chart the history of the characters in the JM Barrie story and it's the first original feature-length commission for Sky Movies HD.
Hoskins will reprise the role of ' Smee' he last played in Steven Spielberg's 1991 Peter Pan film, ' Hook', while Ifans will play James Hook and Friel stars as Captain Elizabeth Bonny.
' Neverland' has been written and directed by Nick Willing and produced by Alan Moloney, of ' Intermission' fame and a large Irish crew will also be involved.
Shooting for the dual two-hour features has already taken place in Genoa, Italy and will continue at a number of locations across Dublin, which have yet to be specified.
The mini-series is expected to hit the small screen, on satellite channel, Sky Movies Premiere HD, next year and Sky Movies director, Ian Lewis, said the story would essentially encompass the beginning of everything.
' The legend of Peter Pan spans generations and never fails to delight and entertain,' Mr Lewis said. ' Despite many different interpretations, there's never been a movie of how it all could have come to be – this is that story.
' Neverland is a fantastic coup for us and a landmark event for Sky Movies.'
It's not yet known whether the Fingal capital itself will feature during shooting. The hit period drama, ' The Tudors', spent a week filming around Swords Castle back in October 2009.
