High-flying Dubs punish Mayo's lack of firepower
Dubs now genuine contenders for league decider PEERING down at their rivals from the peaks of the top division is an unusual occurrence for modern-day Dublin football teams, but that's the splendid view they currently enjoy following their productive trip to Castlebar yesterday.
Brennan's a party 'Killer' as Bohs pip the new boys
IF only football matches were decided on merit and other such attributes, and not just goals alone, the Sporting Fingal camp would be a happier place this week. The Premier Division debutants received an early lesson in the unforgiving world of the top league, conceding a soft penalty late on to hand victory to an uninspiring Bohemians side.
Franchise system the way forward
In a hard-hitting critique of the domestic league last week, GERRY KELLY insisted the time has come 'switch off the life support' and 'let the league die'. This week, the well known broadcaster offers his alternative to the current set-up and argues his plan could be a win-win for all involved... THE first weekend of a new season and attendance figures across the five matches played in the Premier Division of our top soccer league make for sad reading.
Swords driver revs up for big season in US
REIGNING Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Patrick McKenna has ended weeks of speculation by announcing that he has signed to race in the US F2000 series with Cape Motorsports. In common with an increasing number of European racers, the Swords man has decided to forego the usual treadmill of UK and European single-seater racing for the burgeoning US junior single-seater scene. Former Irish Formula Ford champion McKenna has decided to begin his quest for glory in the revamped US F2000 Championship, which benefits this year from an impressive prize fund and promotion by the Indy Racing League as the first step on the 'Road to Indy'. For McKenna, a podium finisher in British Formula Ford last season, the move to the US is a logical one.

An announcement has been made that an official manufacturer-supported team will be contesting the Superbike and Senior Isle of Man TT Races in 2010 – further increasing the number of manufacturers participating this year.
Fingal fail to capitalise on Hyland dismissal
A DISAPPOINTING secondhalf display from Fingal saw them succumb to a 14-man Wicklow team in round two of the Allianz Hurling League Division 3B at Lawless Park on Saturday. Don Hyland's dismissal for a second yellow on 47 minutes left Wicklow short their full forward, but the Garden County, who were holding a two-point lead at the time, came through without him. Fingal, having opened their account with a win over Sligo, made a great start, with points from Brian McCarthy, Paul McAllister and Martin Ormonde cancelling out an early Jonathan O'Neill free.
U-21s survive Wee test
(AET) MISSED chances, a sendingoff, extra-time, some dreadful shooting by the winners; there was no shortage of drama in St Brigid's Park, Dundalk on Saturday as Dublin eventually booked a place in the semi-final with victory over Louth. Whereas the home side had a landslide win over Wexford behind them in the first round, this was the Dubs' first outing and it showed. They enjoyed lots of possession but accuracy in front of the posts was a long way off as a wides tally of 21 clearly illustrates.
Fingal sweat a bit longer
FINGAL are making heavy weather of securing their Leinster Division 1 status for another season, after conceding a late equaliser in this relegation scrap last Saturday, writes Marcus Cavaroli.
Skerries set sights on AIL challenge
A THIRD consecutive bonuspoint victory saw Skerries complete their Leinster League season on a high at Holmpatrick last Saturday. Ben Gissing's men had a poor start to the campaign, but they've clicked into top gear in recent weeks and amassed 125 points in their three concluding games while conceding only 37.
