Ballyboughal open with a Wynne

Wednesday March 03 2010

BALLYBOUGHAL opened their league account with a tight onepoint win over St Finian's, with Ciaran Wynne's 68th-minute goal proving the difference between the sides.

Balboughal started the game with a couple of points from Lar Lynch and then with five minutes to go to half time, his brother Keith reacted to a shot that came off a crossbar, sidestepped two players and then neatly slotted the ball under the goalkeeper to put Ballyboughal ahead by 1-3 to 0-3.

The second half saw Ballyboughal stretch their lead courtesy of points from Wynne and Lar Lynch, only for Finians to stun their opponents with two quick-fire goals.

Another point followed to leave Ballyboughal two points behind entering the final stages of the game before Wynne struck for the decisive score.

Greg Rooney played a great ball into the edge of the square, and it was Wynne who reached highest to glance the ball into the corner of the net.

Best on the day for Ballyboughal were David Downey in goals who made a couple of great saves, Willie Wogan in defence and Lar and Keith Lynch up front.

BALLYBOUGHAL: David Downey; Peter Monks, Niall McElligott, Willie Wogan; Ian Rooney, Gavan Dungan, Padraig Flynn; Danny McGill, Richie Downey; Greg Rooney, Cian Delaney, Keith Lynch; Ciaran Wynne, Lar Lynch, Tony Rooney. Subs used: Billie Joe Cooney, Cathal Jones, Thomas Keogh.
