BALLYBOUGHAL: Greg Rooney was in fine form for Ballyboughal.

AHEAD of their league opener with St Finian's Newcastle, Ballyboughal laid the foundations for victory early on Saturday, with Gavan Dungan turning in a fine display in defence.

The 2009 Dublin Junior champions had a significant amount of possession but were unable to convert the bulk of their chances.

But with Ciaran Wynne settling the nerves with some frees and Greg Rooney chipping in with a couple of good scores, Ballyboughal after building up a 0-5 to 0-1 lead, maintained their four point cushion to lead 0-7 to 0-3 at the interval.

Nonetheless Ballinteer's late rally in the first half reminded Ballyboughal that there was still plenty of work to do and they upped their performance after the break as they moved the ball quicker into the forwards.

This allowed them to build up a good lead with scores from Greg Rooney and Wynne as they made it two wins from two in their group.

Best on the day were Gavin Dungan, Ian Rooney in defence and Ciaran Wynne and Greg Rooney up front
