Rampant ' Boughal stun the Finbarrs

BALLYBOUGHAL......... 2- 11 N FIONNBARRA........... 2- 7

Wednesday September 01 2010

BALLYBOUGHAL pulled off arguably the shock of the weekend as they defeated the current Division 3 leaders in Skerries on Saturday night.

Ballyboughal, who captured the Division 4 crown just under a fortnight ago, were up for this from the start as Lar Lynch and Gerry Seaver ran amok up front.

And although Seaver was to receive a heavy challenge ten minutes into the game, the Dublin under-21 recovered to emerge as the game's top scorer with 1-5.

Mid-way through the half, Ballyboughal found the back of the net when Seaver's pass opened up the Finbarrs' defence, with Lynch calmly taking the ball round the ' keeper before slotting into the empty net.

Although Finbarrs rallied towards the end of the half, further scores from Lynch, Seavers and Greg Rooney ensured a comfortable 1-8 to 0-4 lead at the break.

Despite playing into a strong breeze in the second half, Ballyboughal protected their lead, with the midfield duo of Richie Downey and McGill again turning in a stormer, allowing them to limit the supply of ball into the Finbarrs' full forward line.

And although Finbarrs introduced an extra man into midfield, it made little difference, with Ballyboughal all but putting the game beyond their reach with another goal fifteen minutes from time.

The chance came after Eoin McPhilbin's shot had come crashing off the crossbar, but there to clean up on the rebound was Seaver. BALLYBOUGHAL: David Downey, Peter Monks, Gavan Dungan, Willie Wogan, Tony Rooney, Ian Rooney, Niall McElligott, Richie Downey, Danny McGill, Ciaran Wynne 0-1, Eoin McPhilbin 0-1, Eoin O Brien, Greg Rooney 0-2 , Lar Lynch 1-2, Gerry Seaver 1-5. Subs: Padraig Flynn for Lar Lynch,. Keith Lynch for Eoin O' Brien.
