Ravens pay a heavy price

THOMAS DAVIS...........1-9 FINGAL RAVENS..........0-9

Wednesday March 10 2010

AHEAD of Sunday's big clash with Ballymun Kickhams in Rolestown, Fingal Ravens paid the price for some slack play in their final group game at the weekend.

With four of the team involved in the junior trials the previous day, fatigue began to set in in the second half as they kicked away possession after the turnaround.

Ravens, who welcomed back PJ Casey after a four-week lay-off, had begun the game with their best score when an eleven-player move off the throw was finished by Stephen Madigan.

Davis came back to register the next three points, but scores from Niall Tormey (free) and Ciaran Norton levelled proceedings, only for Davis to go back in front.

Corner back Jason Boland then started and finished a move to level proceedings on 10 minutes with Tormey then putting the home side back in front with a free.

However, with both teams looking rather tired there was a bit of a lull in proceedings before back-to-back scores from the visitors left them 0-6 to 0-5 ahead at the break.

Ravens then rattled off a hat-trick of points through Kenny McDonagh, Ian Kavanagh (free) and Tormey, only for Davis to come back again to level the tie with eight minutes to go.

And although Alan Casey reacted well to kick over Ravens' ninth point after Tormey's free had come back off the crossbar, Ravens – having won a free – then kicked away possession which resulted in Davis breaking downfield to register the winning goal.

FINGAL RAVENS: Thomas McGrath, Ronan Norton, Caomhin O Scanaill, Jason Boland, Kenny MacDonagh, Shane Maxwell, Joey Morris, Martin Flanagan, Ian Kavanagh, Steven Madigan, Ciaran Norton, Luke Griffin, Niall Tormey, PJ Casey, Alan Casey. Subs: Gavan Donoghue for Morris, Matthew Lambe for Boland.
