Reilly strike proves the difference

ST MAUR’S................1-10 THOMAS DAVIS......... 2-5

Wednesday March 10 2010

ST MAUR'S league opener at Kiltipper Road on Sunday morning saw them emerge two point winners with Mickey Reilly's second-half goal ultimately proving the difference in the end.

The game got off to a flyer with Davy McGuinness and Luke Fletcher opening up an early three point lead for the visitors.

And although a defensive mix up allowed Thomas Davis in for an early goal, Maurs regained their composure to add further points from Conor Donegan (2) and McGuinness to trail by just a point at the interval, 1-4 to 0-6.

And then following points from McGuinness (free) and Conor Donegan, Maurs then found the back of the net when Balfe dispossessed a Davis player to set up an attack.

Danny Byrne and Fletcher then combined to release Reilly who duly fired to the net. Further points from O'Reilly and McGuinness put Maur's 110 to 1-4 up before Davis landed a late penalty.

ST MAUR'S: Davy McGuinness 0-5, Mickey O'Reilly 1-1, Conor Donegan 0-3 Luke Fletcher 0-1.
