Syls march to comfortable win
ST SYLVESTER'S were comfortable winners of this AFL Division 1 opener at Broomfield on Sunday morning.
The bedrock for the vistory was a miserly display from the home defence who put the shackles on the two McMenamon brothers.
And there was more good news for the Sylvesters management with Louth forward Darren Clarke and Aidan Relihan both returning from injury to feature in the second half for the Malahide outfit.
Former Dublin forward Eoin Bennis had kicked over the first two points for Sylvesters as the home side raced into an early 4-1 lead.
And showing plenty of pace in all sectors of the field, Sylvesters continued to dominate, with midfielders John Coghlan and Ross Hazely covering plenty of ground. Late points from the duo had established a 0-10 to 0-2 lead at the interval.
Sylvesters continued their momentum after the break, with Niall Coghlan, Gary Sweeney and youngster Michéal McCarthy all contributing points.
And approaching full time, Sylvester's were comfortably ahead before Judes pegged on three late points in the six additional minutes of stoppage time.
Sylvesters next match is in the semi-final of the 09 Vincent de Paul Cup against St Mary's Saggart, with an away fixture to come against Parnells in another cup fixture on Monday evening.
