ST SYLVESTER'S travelled to Saggart on Wednesday night as this deferred Vincent de Paul Cup 2009 semi final finally took place.
The Malahide outfit started the brighter, but they were unable to convert their early superiority into scores until Jude Sullivan eventually sent over a lovely point from 35 yards after eight minutes.
This was quickly followed by two Aidan Relihan points and Sylvester's were up and running.
Mary's then responded with two points, but by the 18th minute Sylvester's had moved up a gear. John Coughlan (who made his senior debut for Offaly in the National League on Sunday) and John Murphy were on top in midfield and their backs defended resolutely.
Further scores from Coughlan, Eoin Fanning and Aidan Relihan put Sylvester's four up before Mary's added a late point to leave it 0-6 to 0-3 for the visitors at the break.
Sylvester's then introduced Ross Hazely for the second half, with John Murphy moving to half forward.
And with Jude Sullivan again opening the half with a score, Sylvester's then moved further ahead courtesy of a Relihan free. And although Mary's were to counter with a score of their own, Relihan, having cut in from the side, then fisted over a terrific score.
He followed that with a free before Mary's scored off another break with ten minutes to go. Sylvester's then closed the game out with two excellent points from wing backs Colm Hanratty and Brian McGuirk, before Mary's finished the scoring with a point on full-time.
