Podge helps Kelly prepare for Glenmuir

ST MARGARET'S Golf Club professional John Kelly has been picking the brains of triple major winner Padraig Harrington in preparation for the Irish qualifier of the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship at The Heritage in County Laois today ( Tuesday).
The PGA pro tees up for the flagship event, having spent the winter in California taking his game apart shot by shot at the Titleist Performance Institute in a bid to iron out glitches in his game.
And he hopes his continuing close association with Harrington will help him learn from his mistakes ahead of the coming season and culminate in reaching the € 90,000 Glenmuir final at The Oxfordshire from August 10th13th.
'I've been working with Dr Liam Hennessey and Padraig Harrington. Having access to what Padraig has to help him is phenomenal,' said Kelly.
'Whatever my results this year, I know that my preparations will have been perfect.
'What Padraig has told me to do this year is to learn from my mistakes – and that's something I would never have done in the past. I would make mistakes, but then just dismiss them.'
He added: 'The Glenmuir is an event that I should have done better in over the years and haven't for some reason.
'I don't know whether it's because I put too much pressure on myself to do well. It's a flagship event and one I consider to be very important.
'The answer is to try and treat it like any other event, but it's easy to say that.
'I've qualified for a few now but never really done anything and it's an event I would like to go out and win if I can.'
The qualifiers for the Peugeot and MPI Financial Services-supported Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship qualifiers marks the beginning of the tournament season for PGA pros.
