Bracken's fight night warm- up
PLANS for the new season are well under way at Bracken Boxing Club, as the Balbriggan outfit prepare to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The Milestone Inn is already booked for a big fight night on October 1st, with a Munster selection likely to provide the opposition for a top-class show.
As well as kicking off the Jubilee celebrations, the challenge will also serve as a warm-up for the HSK Box Cup which takes place in the Danish town of Hillerod two weeks later on October 15th. The last time Bracken attended the ultra-competitive event, they walked off with five medals – three gold and two silver – but this time around club coach Kieran O'Neill reckons they can fare even better.
' It's one of the strongest teams we have ever taken anywhere,' he stressed. ' We have Dylan Boylan, Christy O'Reilly, Alan Cunningham, Keith Hammond, Gerard Whitehouse, Conor Duffy, Shane Egan. There's a good few Irish champions in there and of course, Gerard [ Whitehouse] has won a European bronze.
' It's a tough tournament with teams from Holland, Africa, the UK and Germany boxing.'
