County's league triumph
NORTH County 1sts have been declared champions of Division 1 with two matches to spare after winning at YMCA last Saturday.
Because of poor weather conditions, the match was reduced to 25 overs a side, and County scored at nearly seven runs an over to accumulate 173 for 5.
Brian Shields made 73 of that tally, while Jimmy Boyland hit 32 and Terry Richardson made a quickfire 30.
In reply, YMCA lost wickets at regular intervals, struggled to keep up with the run rate and were eventually dismissed for 141, with Eddie Richardson taking 4-39 and Boyland 3-27.
North County 2nds have also had reason to celebrate after defeating Rush in the Fingal Cup final last Tuesday.
Rush batted first and amassed a total of 130 for 6 in their allotted 16 overs, with Tomas Sheil ( 3-30) and Terry Richardson ( 227) doing best to stem the flow of runs.
County impressively reached their target in 14.3 thanks to Tomas Sheil's 56 not out and a quickfire 29 from Stephen Mooney, batting at number six.
Elsewhere, Anto Coates made his second century in just over a week as the 4ths beat Leinster by 105 runs last Saturday. Coates hit 139 out of County's big total of 285. On Sunday North County 3rds were involved in a run fest against Malahide which was ultimately ruined by the rain.
Malahide batted first and made 333 for 3 in their allotted overs, with Joe Murphy ( 1-55) and Keith Clarke ( 1-54) the pick of the bowling attack.
County started off strongly and were 118 for 2 off 13 overs when the rain came down and the match was abandoned. Derek Rooney was unbeaten on 57 at that stage.
